Novara, a CHA Company, is currently seeking a Director of Software Development for our Norwell, MA office. 


We are searching for an energetic Director of Software Development to coach, motivate, and accelerate a team of software engineers who design, code, and test the NOVARA Geospatial product line. A successful candidate will have a strong technical background, team management experience, and experience delivering software using Agile methods. The Director of Software Development will report directly to the President of NOVARA LLC and will be a key member of the senior leadership team.


  • Directly manages a team of software development professionals.
  • Leads Agile (Scrum) planning and execution to help the team achieve milestones and ultimately deliver the product.
  • Acts as point of escalation on related matters.
  • Works closely with the Product/Project Manager to ensure delivery of the product with the agreed upon requirements by the agreed upon target dates.
  • Participates on senior leadership team, both representing R&D perspective as well as the overarching strategic objectives of the business.
  • Works with the Management and other stakeholders to establish the long-term vision and strategic direction of the product set.
  • Provides timely and accurate reporting relevant to development function.
  • Participates in scrum meetings (planning, demos, retrospectives, etc.).
  • Ensures that the team’s knowledge and skills are up-to-date through training, pair programming, etc.
  • Manages day-to-day activities including personnel issues.
  • Seeks ways to continuously improve development methods and processes to maximize productivity and quality.
  • Ensures that architectural integrity is maintained and the team is adhering to best practice standards.


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or equivalent.

  • Passion for leading, coaching, and inspiring a team to deliver more than they think is possible.

  • Ability to create and foster a team environment that encourages personal initiative, creativity, technical development, and achievement of goals.
  • At least 10 years of experience in hand’s-on software engineering roles.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading a team of technology professionals.
  • Understanding of key technologies such as the .NET framework, SQL, web services, mobile, etc., and familiarity with ESRI technologies is a plus.
  • Background and in-depth knowledge of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) or Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) technologies a plus.
  • Experience in development of project plans, budgets, and resource requirements.
  • Solid analytical skills.
