Overview

CHA Consulting, Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Level Environmental Engineer, Geologist, or Scientist to lead a section of our Environmental Compliance, Hazardous Materials & Safety Group at our Albany, NY office location.

 

This Section Manager will be responsible for the management of largely Colonie, NY based staff that provide asbestos and hazardous building materials consulting and field oversight services to public entities in the capital region and all areas of New York State. The manager will directly report to the Associate Vice President and Technical Leader of the Environmental Compliance, Hazardous Materials, and Safety Technical Group. This individual will be measured on his/her staff’s technical quality, utilization of his/her discipline’s staff across all markets, and adherence to project schedules and budgets. The Section Manager will also be responsible for supporting market focused staff in developing business opportunities, assisting with both high level technical advisory and detailed design aspects of hazardous building materials abatement and remediation projects and providing direction and mentoring to technical support staff assigned to him or her.

 

We’re seeking a motivated individual who is eager to mentor staff, provide high quality services and deliverables and grow this service area to both, add new clientele and build upon current client relationships. A high energy, results-oriented, resourceful leader will be successful in this role. 

Responsibilities

Management of technical staff; project development and delivery; project management; development of proposals and scope/fee. Additional duties include assuring the appropriate mentoring and training of junior staff, assuring the appropriate blend of staff skill sets are brought to bear on projects, and understanding the impacts of discipline interaction on project development. This role will also be responsible for maintaining a work environment that fosters collaboration, career growth opportunity and good morale.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors of Science in Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science or a closely related degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years related work experience required specifically with a focus on asbestos inspection, design and abatement oversight experience; however experience in additional environmental specialties is of interest.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills required. 
  • Staff management experience; must have ability to mentor, motivate, and manage different levels of technical staff.
  • Must be an articulate and persuasive communicator, both one-on-one and in front of large groups.
  • Strong ability to resolve matters that arise within the discipline.
  • Strong experience with project budgeting required. 
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of internal accounting processes.
  • Demonstrates a strong knowledge of the company’s technical processes.
  • Valid US driver’s license required.

Preferred:

  • Masters of Science in related discipline preferred.
  • P.E. license or other professional certification (CHMM, CIH, etc.) preferred.
  • 40 hr. HAZWOPER and OSHA 10 hr. Construction training preferred.
