    CHA Consulting, Inc. is currently seeking a Principal Aviation Planner to join our Aviation Practice in Chantilly, VA.


    For more than half a century, CHA has provided planning, design, construction, and asset management services to the nation’s top airports. Through this work on countless aviation projects totaling hundreds of millions of dollars, our dedicated aviation professionals have built strong working relationships with the FAA and state transportation offices. We have an in-depth understanding of state and federal regulations, as well as the technical requirements and challenges faced by modern airports.


    This position is responsible for leading technical execution of aviation planning projects regardless of size and complexity. You will work on projects of varying size and complexity. CHA’s Aviation Planning team is diverse in technical expertise, level of experience, skill sets, and office location.  We are team oriented and work collaboratively using modern technology. CHA has been in the Aviation Consulting business for over 30 years and has a strong backlog of aviation planning work airport clients ranging from general aviation to large hub.


    • Manage and perform technical planning tasks including or associated with but not limited to: Airport Master Planning; Airspace Planning and Analysis; Airport Layout Plans; Exhibit A Property Maps; Airport Land Acquisition; Environmental Assessments; aircraft parking layouts; and specialty studies.
    • Management and coordination of specialist teams (including sub-consultants).
    • Client point of contact on aviation planning projects.
    • Balance workload for projects with overlapping schedules.
    • Manage and perform technical QA/QC of planning documents prior to client submission.
    • Manage project scopes, schedules, and budget through project completion.
    • Develop aviation planning project scope and fee proposals.
    • Develop responses to RFP and RFQs.
    • Participate in client interviews for new work pursuits.
    • Develop project implementation plans including schedule and staffing plan.
    • Governing agency (FAA, State DOT, etc.) point of contact for aviation planning projects.
    • Supervise, train, and develop staff within the aviation planning team including performance reviews.


    • Bachelor’s degree in planning, airport management, engineering, architecture, or equivalent in related discipline.
    • 15+ years of progressive aviation planning experience.
    • Previous project team leader experience.
    • Experience supervising direct staff reports.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
    • Track record of delivering airport planning projects on time, within budget, and to the client’s complete satisfaction.
    • Experience performing planning tasks for general aviation airports and commercial service airports.
    • Working knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars relevant to aviation planning.

     Preferred Qualifications:

    • Hold a private/commercial pilot’s license.
    • Participation/presenting at aviation technical conferences.
    • 5+ years working at consulting firms.
    • Master’s degree in planning, management, or related field.
    • Applicable certifications (AICP, CM, etc.).
