OVERVIEW

CHA Consulting, Inc. is currently seeking an Engineer IV to join our Environmental Team in our Albany, NY office.

 

CHA is uniquely qualified to assist any client with environmental services. From initial site characterization through remediation, CHA draws on the expertise of staff team members that possess considerable environmental site assessment and remediation experience. We have been providing environmental consulting services for more than 25 years, and we employ a team of approximately 100 scientists and engineers who keep abreast of current regulatory issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

At CHA, our Environmental Engineer IV provides advanced judgment and analysis techniques for the design development, implementation, and technical analysis of various systems to implement new products, or changes to an existing scheme, to suit individual client needs. This key role is responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating detailed phases of a project independently with other engineering disciplines and project management staff. The Environmental Engineer IV mentors junior staff members and provides technical review of their work as needed.

The Environmental Engineer IV recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures as well as selects proper procedures to self-check his/her own work for completeness and accuracy in technical reports and calculations. The Environmental Engineer IV identifies, develops, and gathers technical resources necessary to complete assignments. This Environmental Engineer IV continuously monitors the progress and performance of the engineering design development against the project work plan.  

  • Experience and knowledge of a variety of site investigation and remediation projects
  • Knowledge of and experience with environmental regulations, compliance, and interfacing and negotiating with regulators.
  • Ability to Manage a team of staff supporting the PM’s workload and client requirements.
  • Ability to lead the preparation of large and complex environmental data sets, technical reports, and design tasks as well as other activities requiring the knowledge of standard engineering principles and techniques
  • Ability to plan and coordinate the execution of complex field investigations, with knowledge of proper sampling techniques, and direction of staff on such activities
  • Responsible for overseeing staff with the development of design computations, technical specifications and preparation of the contract documents using the standards established by the technical group.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with:
  • PBS/CBS Compliance and Inspections – NYS & Federal
  • Environmental Compliance Auditing
  • EPCRA – Tier II, Form R Reporting
  • SPCC/SPR Plan Development
  • SPDES Permitting and Compliance
  • Identifies, develops, and gathers technical resources necessary to complete assignments
  • Responsible for maintaining company quality standards and assisting in the technical review of client deliverables
  • Recognizes technical discrepancies in analytical results and makes appropriate corrections following standard procedures established by the technical group
  • Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of a project independently with other engineering disciplines and project management staff
  • Complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints
  • Provides guidance to junior level technical staff members
  • Assist or lead the technical scope proposal development

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 4 years of discipline specific engineering experience required
  • Specific experience in the preparation of remedial investigations and feasibility studies, brownfield cleanup, Superfund, emerging contaminants, and soil vapor intrusion is preferred. 
  • Demonstrates a strong knowledge about the respective engineering discipline
  • Proven ability to practically apply engineering best practices
  • Proficiency with MS Office software required
  • Familiar with QA/QC procedures and understands basic business practices and laws related to engineering
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills and effectively work in a collaborative environment
  • Accomplished technical writer with ability to summarize complex data sets and issues in report format with specific focus on the audience at hand
  • An articulate and persuasive communicator, both one-on-one and in front of large groups, including clients and regulatory agencies
  • Demonstrates and promotes a positive attitude toward position, group, and company
  • Well organized and ability to prioritize multiple projects concurrently
  • A willingness to travel for project assignments periodically; valid US driver's license is requiredAn active role in a professional engineering society/organization preferred
