OVERVIEW

CHA Consulting, Inc. is currently seeking an Assistant Project Engineer to join our Highway & Rail Business Practice in our Albany, NY office.

 

Addressing the immediate travel needs and expectations of today’s society and anticipating the mobility and modal challenges and opportunities that will accompany our next generation requires comprehensive planning, engineering and implementation. For over 60 years, CHA’s transportation professionals have planned, developed and provided solutions to municipalities, metropolitan planning organizations, public and private authorities, and state transportation agencies. We also provide a full complement of construction administration and inspection services to monitor, record and deliver projects on time and on budget.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Project Engineer monitors progress and performance against the project plan and acts immediately to resolve operational problems and minimize delays, as well as recognizes technical discrepancies in analytical results, and makes appropriate corrections. The Assistant Project Engineer III identifies, develops, and gathers technical resources necessary to complete assignments. The Assistant Project Engineer III completes field assignments when appropriate.

 

A successful Assistant Project Engineer will support senior project engineers in a variety of tasks on highway design projects including:

  • Mentoring entry-level staff in the preparation of calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and public presentations.
  • Development of computation methods, technical reports and technical specifications at the direction of senior engineering staff, the section manager or the technical director using the standards established by the technical group
  • Monitors progress and performance against the project plan
  • Acts immediately to resolve operational problems and minimize delays
  • Identifies, develops, and gathers technical resources necessary to complete assignments
  • Accompanies senior engineering staff on field assignments when appropriate
  • Coordinate with designers/technicians to develop contract drawings
  • This position may also require work on project sites including investigation of existing conditions: field measurements, photographs, and field sketches, as well as field visits during construction to monitor progress, investigation of changed field conditions, and necessary performance of measurements for contract plan changes

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 3 years of related engineering experience is required
  • Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of the respective engineering field as well as proven ability to practically apply it in a professional environment
  • Relevant highway design experience with State DOT projects is a plus.
  • Proficient in engineering, computational, and modeling software (MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads)
  • Understands QA/QC procedures
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit various audiences
  • Desire to work in a collaborative team environment with the willingness to assist more senior staff
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software required
  • Participation in a professional engineering society/organization is preferred
