American Fire is currently seeking a Sr. Project Manager to join our Fire Protection team based in the Southeast. Ideal locations for this position include Birmingham, AL, Cullman, AL, or Charlotte, NC.


  • Monitors and reports work status, progress and performance for leading projects. Accountable for project and task budgeting and reporting; project economics including project reports; percent complete; invoicing, collections, and project closeout
  • Technical credibility; understands industry trends and products; understands technical tools and methods
  • Accountable for building client relationships
  • Ability to work autonomously manages projects and proactively escalates issues to management.
  • Manages larger or more complicated project portfolios
  • Needs to have the ability to bid projects and negotiate pricing as well as follow procurement rules with guidance from managers and working with estimators
  • Conducts regular project progress meetings with client manager and provides progress reports to manger
  • Maintains electronic project directory including all relevant project information including contracts, subcontracts, invoices, critical correspondence and general project files
  • Independently responsible for writing effective proposals and scopes of work
  • Assists other team members
  • Responsible for developing a comprehensive and project schedule, and communicating updates to the client, management and project team; manages project completion through project scheduling, expediting of required submissions and the management of the document submittals/approvals; exercises judgment and discretion and implements project controls while maintaining project quality
  • Responsible for coordination of contracts with client, subcontractors, purchase orders, daily correspondence, and all other project related documents; maintains a set of contract documents that contains all the current contract changes and clarifications
  • Develops project plan and Quality Management Plan as required


  • Associate’s degree preferred or equivalent field experience
  • NICET certification preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required


  • 7+ years of Fire Protection experience required; 5+ years of project management experience required
  • Design and Project Management experience in Aviation fire protection systems including high expansion foam is highly desired
  • Experience preparing proposals, project plans, change orders and project closeout documents for projects
  • Experience understanding and interpreting client contract requirements
  • Ability to track and oversee multiple projects in the 7-10 million dollar range highly preferred 
  • Experience utilizing problem-solving skills, exercising discretion, and making independent judgments
  • Experience managing project accounting processes to include project budgeting and forecasts
  • An articulate and persuasive communicator, both one-on-one and in front of large groups required
  • Must have good written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal and leadership skills required
  • Strong ability to work in a team environment required
  • Ability to travel as needed required
  • Demonstrated experience in managing client relationships
  • Experience in Microsoft Office suite required proficient in overall computer skills
