CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Principal ITS Designer to join our Traffic & ITS Team in Miami, FL; Coral Springs, FL; Winter Springs, FL; or Tampa, FL. In this seniorlevel role, you will lead the design and delivery of complex ITS and traffic systems that support smarter corridors, connected infrastructure, and safer communities—while mentoring designers and collaborating across disciplines to bring impactful transportation solutions to life.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the design and production of ITS and traffic plans, including traffic signals, fiber optic communications, CCTV/video systems, detection technologies, and associated transportation infrastructure using transportation design software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, OpenRoads, and Civil 3D
  • Provide ITS and traffic design expertise across projects, establishing design standards, advancing best practices, and driving innovative solutions
  • Collaborate with traffic engineers, planners, and multidisciplinary design teams to deliver integrated ITS solutions across various projects that meet project, client, and agency requirements
  • Provide technical oversight, mentorship and guidance to junior designers and engineers ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to standards across all deliverables
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of design plans and contract documents to ensure compliance with DOT, FHWA and client standards, particularly Florida transportation design requirements.
  • Support the development of technical reports, material costs, construction estimations, and production schedules for ITS and traffic initiatives
  • Facilitate project review meetings and AsBuilt documentation efforts while driving continuous improvements to design workflows and production processes

What You Bring:

  • Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Engineering Science, or related technical field required
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in traffic or ITSrelated design and document production required
  • Strong knowledge of Florida DOT design standards and transportation project requirements
  • Demonstrated experience developing and reviewing ITS and signalization plan sets, including traffic signals, fiber optic infrastructure, and CCTV/video systems
  • Proficiency in discipline-based software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, OpenRoads, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) as well as Microsoft Office Suite
  • Expert working knowledge of engineering discipline with strong expertise in design drawing layout
  • Strong communication skills and organizational skills with a collaborative work ethic and strong problem-solving capabilities

Salary Range:

$55.00 - $70.00

 

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
